Located just behind Port Vel, where the rich and famous park
their yachts, is le Barceloneta’s 4.5 km of man-made sandy beaches which were created for the 1992 Olympic Games. National Geographic named Barcelona the "best beach city" and the many locals and tourists who flock there I am sure would agree.
Looking at some of the smaller sailboats in the Port Vell Harbor with Moll de Bosch i Alsina (central area) of Port Vell in the background. This area was part of the former Barcino (name of the original Barcelona) during the Roman age. The Las Ramblas ends at the water and we walked along the palm treed Moll de Bosch i Alsina to reach Barceloneta and its beaches.
As mentioned in an earlier blog, Rose Moss suggested we make a reservation at Los Caracoles (snails) restaurant. It was an wonderful experience not only for the food but the atmosphere. The restaurant was founded in 1835 and has been run by the same family ever since. Our appetizer was their signature dish of snails and mushrooms in a tomato sauce and Rita's main course was a fish platter which consisted of 4 types of fish, mussels, clams, squid and gambas (large prawns). I had a wonderful grilled Sole dish. We both could not finish off Rita's dish it was so much great food. Thanks again Rose for a wonderful suggestion.

After coming back from our fabulous walk, we hung our washing out to dry
